Welcome to Mugdock Trust website
Mugdock Trust was formed in 1991 as a charitable organization whose purpose is to preserve and maintain historical and ecological features in Mugdock Country Park and to raise awareness amongst the general public of its natural beauty and heritage.
The Trust works alongside Country Park staff who have the broader remit of managing and promoting the entire Park. This is an impressive natural resource covering a large area criss-crossed by numerous paths and walkways that allow visitors to appreciate the Park’s natural charm and its wide range of flora and fauna. For more on this, the work of the Park Rangers and for events and facilities on offer, go to www.mugdock-country-park.org.uk
A key concern of the Trust is the promotion of Mugdock Castle and its care and maintenance; the 14th century ancestral home of Clan Graham. It is situated on a natural steep-sided mound above Mugdock Loch where traces of bronze-age settlement have been found. The castle’s restored tower, courtyard and remains of outbuildings speak to a turbulent past and its troubled history is explained in information boards around the site. A climb to the top of the tower on one of the special open days is a must with, on a clear day, views across the Clyde valley as far as Tinto Hill near Biggar.
Situated 3 miles north of Milngavie, the Park is really easy to get to and has ample car parking. See the Location tab for more details.
