Having decided to explore the idea of installing a maze in the castle grounds, the Trust commissioned Mike Hyatt Landscape Architects to produce a series of design options. The resulting four options were assessed by a sub-group of Trustees and Park staff against criteria including play value and ongoing maintenance requirements. The preferred option includes natural hedge mazes, willow sculptures and improved access paths, seating and interpretation. The proposals are being discussed with Stirling Council re planning permission and with Historic Environment Scotland re scheduled monument consent. Plans have also been submitted to two funding organisations with a view to commencing work later in 2024 should the necessary consents and funding be in place.
